Grey Surface Primer - Tamiya Spray

Grey primer does two jobs at once: it gives paint something to key into, and its neutral mid-tone shows up every seam, scratch and sink mark left over from construction while there is still time to fix them. On a bare plastic kit those flaws are invisible until the colour coat finds them.

It is the right primer for the majority of subjects, because a mid grey ground shifts almost any colour laid over it the least. Tamiya primers can be wet-sanded once cured, so a heavy coat over a repaired area can be brought back flat before painting.
