Natural volcanic stone in reddish-brown tones, graded to a medium size. The colour is in the rock itself rather than painted on, so it stays convincing even where a base gets chipped — and it gives ash fields, lava flows and iron-rich badlands a warmth that grey gravel cannot.

Sized to work from 25 mm miniature bases up to larger-scale scenery, so the same tub serves a wargames force and a display diorama.

Fix it down with PVA, or with AK Interactive’s Gravel & Sand Fixer (AK118) — an alcohol-based adhesive that soaks into the material instead of sitting on top of it as a plastic film the way white glue does.
